In ricordo di un amico
Tentare di elencare tutte le occasioni in cui Vincenzo Pocci mi ha permesso di recuperare manoscritti, opere inedite o edizioni che non esiterei a definire introvabili sarebbe semplicemente impossibile.
Condividevamo la stessa passione per la ricerca: io più orientato all’aspetto esecutivo, lui alla catalogazione rigorosa.
Entrambi ancora abbagliati dallo stupore per ogni nuova pagina scoperta.
La sua celebre Guide to the Guitarist’s Modern and Contemporary Repertoire divenne in pochi anni, per gli addetti ai lavori, il “Catalogo Pocci”: un riferimento unico, prezioso e di rara precisione, mantenuto per pura passione e con strumenti informatici che, all’epoca, erano tutt’altro che scontati.
Con me, oltre ai cataloghi in PDF che rendeva pubblici e gratuiti, condivideva anche i file sorgente dell’intero archivio, permettendomi di comprendere la complessa “struttura relazionale” che aveva ideato per gestire quel flusso di dati nel modo che riteneva più efficace.
Vincenzo ci ha lasciato pochi anni fa e l’ultima edizione della sua Guida risale al 2021. Per diverse ragioni ho ritenuto opportuno attendere prima di mettere mano ai file che mi aveva inviato (nella stessa e‑mail mi confidò di dubitare che ci sarebbero stati ulteriori aggiornamenti) e di dare forma a questa applicazione che consente oggi a chiunque lo desideri di consultare l’intero database.
Il lavoro è appena iniziato: i dati sono stati importati senza perdere nemmeno un bit. Questa è tuttavia solo la prima versione. Nelle prossime settimane saranno aggiunte numerose funzionalità, sia per la ricerca sia per il caricamento di nuove composizioni.
La mia intenzione è infatti quella di costruire una piattaforma dedicata agli editori, che permetta loro, tramite il semplice upload di un singolo file, di comunicare all’algoritmo che governa l’applicazione l’inserimento corretto dei dati, con la possibilità di verificarli prima della pubblicazione.

His celebrated Guide to the Guitarist’s Modern and Contemporary Repertoire soon became, among professionals, the “Pocci Catalogue”: a unique, invaluable, and remarkably precise reference, maintained out of pure passion and with digital tools that, at the time, were anything but commonplace.
In addition to the PDF catalogues he made publicly and freely available, he also shared with me the source files of his entire archive, allowing me to understand the complex “relational structure” he had devised to manage that flow of data in the way he considered most effective.
Vincenzo passed away a few years ago, and the last edition of his Guide dates back to 2021. For various reasons, I felt it appropriate to wait before working on the files he had sent me (in the same e‑mail he confided that he doubted there would be further updates) and before shaping this application, which now allows anyone interested to consult the entire database.
The work has only just begun: the data have been imported without losing a single bit. This is, however, only the first version. In the coming weeks, many new features will be added, both for data search and for uploading new compositions.My intention is to build a platform dedicated to publishers, enabling them, through the simple upload of a single file, to instruct the algorithm that governs the application to insert the data correctly, with the possibility of reviewing them before publication.
