Torsten Nilsson
(b Höör, 21 Jan 1920). Swedish composer and church musician. He studied in Stockholm (1938-43) and with Heiller in Vienna (1961-3) and has worked as an organist and choirmaster in Köping, Helsingborg and Stockholm. His compositions, often forceful and dramatically intense, attempt to break barriers between sacred and secular styles; they include pioneering church operas, oratorios and instrumental music.
