Guitarist, pedagogue and composer, born in Maartensdijk (Province Utrecht), died in Leeuwarden (Province Friesland). He studied guitar with Pieter van der Staak and later at Maastrichts Conservatorium. He was one of the fist guitar teachers at Amsterdams Conservatorium. He also taught at Sweelinck Conservatorium and at the Muziekpedagogische Akademie in Leeuwarden. He is the author of ‚A Modern Approach to the Guitar‘ (1964, 5 volumes), ‚A Duet Approach to the Guitar‘ and ‚The Guitarist‘s Travelling Guide‘ (1980), all edited by Broekmans & van Poppel (Amsterdam). His most famous pupils were Olga Franssen, Helenus de Rijke, Lowell Dijkstra (Dykstra) and Egbert Reidinga.
