Born in 1954 in La Plata (Argentina), he began playing the guitar as of the age of seven.

After studying with master Jorge Martinez Zarate, his principal teacher, Aussel was awarded first prizes at some of the most prestigious competitions in the world, including the international guitar competitions of Radio France, Porto Alegre (Brazil) and Alirio Diaz in Caracas (Venezuela).

Since then, Aussel’s renown as an international concert artist has continued to spread, and he appears regularly in Europe, South America and especially since 1990, the United States (Boston, Los Angeles, San Fransisco, Dallas, New York).

Full professor at the Musikhochschule in Cologne, (Germany) between 1995 and 2021, he leads a very active concert career, which takes him to many stages in various countries around the world each year.

His repertoire ranges from the Baroque to contemporary music and includes folk and popular pieces from the various Latin American countries.

Keenly interested in 20th century music, he has collaborated with several composers, many of whom have written for him: Marius Constant, Marlos Nobre, François Rossé, Norbert Leclerc, José Luis Campana, Francis Schwartz, Juan María Solare, Francis Kleynjans, Bob Wander, Carlos Grätzer, Edmundo Vasquez, Pascale Jakubowski.

In 1981, Astor Piazzolla wrote his well-known Five Pieces for Guitar to Aussel, his first compositions for this instrument.

In addition to performing and teaching, since 1983 Roberto Aussel has been in charge of a collection of guitar music for the Paris publisher Editions Henry Lemoine. Since 2020, he has been directing another collection for guitar „Biblioteca Roberto Aussel“ at the french publisher l’empreinte mélodique.

In 1999, Aussel won the prestigious prize of “KONEX DE PLATINO” offered by the Konex foundation of Buenos Aires (Argentina).

In 2016, Roberto received the Honorary Award José Tomás from the Petrer Guitar Festival (Spain).

His latest recording was released in 2019 „Tangos y Milongas“ is a journey through the music of Buenos Aires and the Argentine Pampas.

Nato nel 1954 a La Plata (Argentina), inizia lo studio della chitarra all’età di sette anni. Dopo aver studiato con il maestro Jorge Martínez Zarate, suo principale insegnante, Roberto Aussel ottiene il primo premio in alcuni tra i più prestigiosi concorsi internazionali, tra cui quelli di Radio France, di Porto Alegre (Brasile) e il concorso Alirio Díaz di Caracas (Venezuela).

Da allora la sua fama di concertista internazionale non ha cessato di crescere: si esibisce regolarmente in Europa, in Sud America e, in particolare dal 1990, negli Stati Uniti (Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas, New York).

Professore ordinario alla Musikhochschule di Colonia (Germania) dal 1995 al 2021, affianca all’attività didattica una carriera concertistica estremamente intensa, che lo porta ogni anno su palcoscenici di numerosi Paesi del mondo. Il suo repertorio spazia dal Barocco alla musica contemporanea e comprende anche brani popolari e folklorici provenienti da diversi Paesi dell’America Latina.

Profondamente interessato alla musica del XX secolo, ha collaborato con numerosi compositori, molti dei quali hanno scritto opere per lui: Marius Constant, Marlos Nobre, François Rossé, Norbert Leclerc, José Luis Campana, Francis Schwartz, Juan María Solare, Francis Kleynjans, Bob Wander, Carlos Grätzer, Edmundo Vasquez, Pascale Jakubowski.Nel 1981 Astor Piazzolla compose per Aussel i celebri Cinque pezzi per chitarra, le sue prime opere dedicate a questo strumento.

Oltre all’attività concertistica e didattica, dal 1983 Roberto Aussel cura una collana di musica per chitarra per l’editore parigino Éditions Henry Lemoine. Dal 2020 dirige inoltre la collana Biblioteca Roberto Aussel presso l’editore francese l’empreinte mélodique.

Nel 1999 riceve il prestigioso Premio Konex de Platino, conferito dalla Fondazione Konex di Buenos Aires.Nel 2016 gli viene assegnato il Premio d’Onore José Tomás dal Petrer Guitar Festival (Spagna).

La sua più recente registrazione, pubblicata nel 2019, Tangos y Milongas, è un viaggio attraverso la musica di Buenos Aires e delle Pampas argentine.
