I. Contas de dolças rondallas
II. En l'alba clara
III.
- Cristiano Porqueddu, 2024

The Concertino di Alghero is a tribute to the Algherese poet Maria Chessa Lai (1922–2012). It is structured in three movements, each inspired by lines from her poem En dins de mi (Inside Me).
First Movement — Contas de Dolças Rondallas (Legends of Sweet Fairy Tales)
The opening movement is conceived as a leyenda, built around two principal themes whose development is continuously interwoven between the two instruments. Their interplay unfolds through prismatic transformations of fundamental motivic cells.
The brief episode preceding the reprise, while still rooted in the elaboration of the main themes and set over a rhythmically motionless backdrop, assumes the character of a concealed subject—something revealed as if by momentarily shifting the listener’s gaze from the foreground to a more distant, atmospheric background.
Second Movement — En l’Alba Clara (In the Clear Dawn)
The second movement does not entirely abandon the tonal world of the first. Yet, evoking the playful iridescence and endless chromatic shimmer of the earliest dawn light, it moves through undulating chromatic lines devoid of any sense of stasis. From this fluid motion emerge three short, contrasting episodes.
Third Movement — Les Fulles més no Tremolen (The Leaves No Longer Tremble)
In the final movement, the dormant impulse of an imagined observer contemplating a moment of existential stillness is brought to the surface through a rutilant, sharply focused progression announced from the very first bars.
The tight dialogue between the two instruments and the wide dynamic range merge into a single sonic fabric, from which echoes of earlier themes seem to be drawn out—like fragments retrieved from a distant, half‑forgotten memory. - Cristiano Porqueddu, 2024
