Sardinia_Moving_Arts® is an ambitious project conceived by Musicare to bring Sardinia to the world through the vision of composers and performers. A journey that carries the atmospheres and colors of our land across three different continents, made possible through the collaboration of concert societies and event organizers within the international network that Musicare has built over more than twenty years of activity.
The project is fully funded by the Regione Autonoma della Sardegna and the European Union (European Regional Development Fund — Identity LAB_2 POR FESR SARDEGNA 2014–2020).
Sardinia_Moving_Arts
The atmospheres and colors of Sardinia carried into the world through art
A team of twenty‑three leading figures from the worlds of music and theatre, more than ten commissions to internationally renowned composers, artistic activity scheduled across three continents, publications, and a global‑scale discographic release.
This is the calling card of Sardinia_Moving_Arts, the international initiative conceived by Nuoro‑born musician Cristiano Porqueddu and organized by Musicare with funding from the European Union and the Autonomous Region of Sardinia.
Musicare, the Nuoro‑based association, has been active since 1998 and boasts an organizational record of hundreds of events held throughout the island — concerts, international interpretation competitions, training courses, conferences, and discographic productions in collaboration with major international labels. It is recognized as one of the leading cultural institutions in the field of original guitar repertoire of the 20th and 21st centuries. Sardinia_Moving_Arts® is a new visionary project by the Nuoro guitarist, aiming to bring Sardinia to the world through the art he knows best: music. The event circuit — spanning concerts, theatrical pieces, CD recordings, and the creation of new original works — reaches major world capitals including Madrid, Moscow, New York, and Sydney. Added to this are commissions for new compositions dedicated to Sardinia, with the goal of shaping and portraying the cultural and historical identity of the island.

These are the composers who have paid tribute to Sardinia through their works. All compositions have been published with editorial revision and fingerings by Cristiano Porqueddu for Les Productions d’OZ, and—specifically for Leo Brouwer’s work—by Ediciones Espiral Eterna.

Portrait of Sardinia
New music for guitar

Portrait of Sardinia is a landmark four‑disc collection by Cristiano Porqueddu, presenting the complete set of world‑premiere recordings of the compositions created for Sardinia Moving Arts®. Conceived as a musical portrait of the island, the box set brings together an extraordinary range of stylistic voices, each offering a personal homage to Sardinia’s landscapes, culture, and identity.
The project extends beyond solo guitar: actress Stefania Masala lends her voice and dramatic presence to Viaggio in Sardegna, while the Duo Cordas et Bentu enriches the collection with the works commissioned for flute and guitar, adding further depth and color to the sonic narrative.

Viaggio in Sardegna
di e con Stefania Masala

It marks the culmination of an artistic collaboration between Cristiano Porqueddu and the Sardinian actress Stefania Masala. Viaggio in Sardegna is a theatrical monologue written by Masala for the international festival Sardinia_Moving_Arts, an event curated by Musicare with the support of the European Union and the Autonomous Region of Sardinia. The work has been published in both Italian and English.
Viaggio in Sardegna is an integral component of the collector’s edition Portrait of Sardinia – New Music for Guitar, released by Brilliant Classics in 2021.
Its world premiere took place in London on 3 November 2021, where the piece was presented as part of a multidisciplinary program dedicated to contemporary Sardinian creativity.
Both the monologue and the accompanying music are available in print and digital format, offering readers and listeners a complete artistic experience that blends narrative, performance, and original composition.
